July 2022 Economics update

Welcome to this July update!

I do hope that when the end of term comes you are able to enjoy a relaxing break but before you go there are a couple of things you may wish to sort out in preparation for results day (your Edexcel Online account and understanding the 2022 grade boundaries).

I'd also like to draw your attention to a new feature in the signature which allows you to book an appointment if you would like to chat about an aspect of our Economics qualifications.

Before you go

You may wish to check your access rights in your Edexcel Online account so that you can access the information you need on results days.

Results files and their contents are confidential to the Head of Centre, examinations office staff and senior members of the teaching staff at the centre. Therefore, the Edexcel Online ‘Results’ profile is only granted to these roles, as it allows access to results files on Wednesday results days.

Other teachers that need access to view results should be given ResultsPlus access, as this is designed to meet the needs of teachers to view and analyse the results for their own students. Results are available through ResultsPlus for teachers on the Thursday results days.

See which Edexcel Online account options you should have

You may also wish to ask your Exams Officer to tick 'Exam viewer' in your Edexcel Online profile in case you want to download candidate scripts from results day (having obtained the candidates' consent first).

Teacher survey: Advance Information for GCSE and A Level

We would like to understand what teachers thought about using the Advance Information (AI) issued for 2022 GCSE, International GCSE, and A Level. This survey takes around 5 minutes to complete.

Grading this summer

Ofqual has published its position on grading (grade boundaries) for the May/June 2022 exam series which might help you understand how grade boundaries will be determined.

Supporting students, parents and carers

Now that the exams are over, we’ve put together some support to help teachers, students and their families from advice on coping with anxiety to fun activities to boost wellbeing.

You’re not alone. Many teachers have been asking about our plans and thousands of students took our onscreen GCSE mocks last year.

We believe in creating assessments that encourage progress, enable access and inclusion, and enrich learning. This has driven our use of onscreen assessment in over 115 countries for more than a decade and how we approach what’s next.

Our focus: where and how we can use technology to positively impact assessments and students’ lives.

  • fresh graduates, PGCE or Teach Firsters who need to understand the exact right level for high grades

Delegates are divided into 2 groups: boffins and beginners.

The 3 day course is £399 including lunches and all refreshments and a memory stick packed with resources.

Taking Care of Business is a new immersive exhibition at the Migration Museum which runs to 5 March 2023.

Entrepreneurship has always been at the heart of the immigrant experience. Migrant entrepreneurs have influenced the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and many other aspects of our lives. This exhibition tells some of their stories.

The museum is based in Lewisham Shopping Centre, London SE13 7HB and welcomes educational visits (appropriate for A level Economics B Topic 1.2 and A level Economics A Topics 2.1 and 3.5).

We know that many of you will still want to offer International GCSE exams between May/June 2022 and May/June 2023 and we will therefore continue to run the January series in 2023.

This will be the last January International GCSE series.

We're introducing a regular International GCSE November series, first running in November 2023. This series is being introduced to best meet the needs of students requiring International GCSE exam opportunities outside of the full May/June series and it will replace the existing January series.

There will be no November series in 2022.

Please take a look at the timeline in the document below.
