Getting the results

Results files and their contents are confidential to the Head of Centre, examinations office staff and senior members of the teaching staff at the centre. Therefore, the Edexcel Online ‘Results’ profile is only granted to these roles, as it allows access to results files on Wednesday results days.

Other teachers that need access to view results should be given ResultsPlus access, as this is designed to meet the needs of teachers to view and analyse the results for their own students. Results are available through ResultsPlus for teachers on the Thursday results days.

Please note that we cannot issue results over the phone. You should obtain results from your exams officer.

If you have any queries about special consideration, please email uk.special.requirements@pearson.com.

The raw mark is the number of marks a learner achieved on an exam or assessment.

For Economics A and Economics B, the A level maximum mark is 335 as this reflects the different weightings of the three A level papers. All three papers are out of 100 but Papers 1 and 2 have a 35% weighting whereas Paper 3 has a 30% weighting. This means that the marks you see are adjusted marks and not raw marks.

The conversion works by multiplying Paper 1 and 2 marks by 1.1725 and the Paper 3 mark by 1.005.

For IAL Economics, the UMS mark (Uniform Mark Scale mark) or points score is a conversion of the raw mark. (UMS marks do not apply to Linear qualifications).

The raw mark is never shown on the results slip, so students will either see a UMS mark, a points score or no numerical mark at all.

Exams Officers can find the raw mark on the 'Component Mark List' report from Edexcel Online. If you have access to ResultsPlus or ResultsPlus Direct, you can also find the raw mark on the question paper screen.

1. Log in to Edexcel Online

2. Select GCSE or GCE from the Qualification drop-down menu

3. Hover over ‘Results’ and select ‘Reports – Bulk download’

4. Select the ‘Session’ and ‘Report type’

5. Select ‘Submit’.

Analysing the results

Once you have the results, there are various ways you can analyse your candidates' performance:

  • use the grade statistics to find out the proportion of candidates achieving each grade
  • use the grade boundaries to find out how close your candidates were to the next grade
  • use ResultsPlus to find out how your candidates achieved in each question and compare this to the national average
  • use the Access To Scripts service to read your candidates' scripts
  • use the examiners reports to read the feedback from the Principal Examiners about candidate performance in each paper
Candidate consent

Candidate consent is required before requesting script copies, as per section 4.2 of the JCQ's Post-results services guide. Candidate consent can only be obtained after results have been published.

Results statistics summarise the overall grade outcomes of candidates sitting Pearson examinations.

Grade boundaries can tell you the marks required to achieve each grade so that you can see how close (or not) your candidates were to the next grade.

Get an overview of how we mark assessments and consistently award grades that fairly reflect a learner's performance.

Ofqual has published its position on grading (grade boundaries) for the May/June 2022 exam series which might help you understand how grade boundaries will be determined.

ResultsPlus is a free online results analysis tool for teachers that gives you a detailed analysis of your students' exam performance. You can also see how they have performed on every question and compare their performance to the national average.

You will be able to view and download scripts which have been marked online free of charge from our Self Service Portal using the Script Viewer function in Edexcel Online. This service is open until 16 December 2022.

The Portal can only be accessed by Edexcel Online users who have the Exam Viewer profile ticked on Edexcel Online. Your exams officer gives teachers access to Exam Viewer. Please note that these scripts do not contain examiners' annotations.

If scripts have been marked "traditionally" (i.e. not online), you will have to request them, free of charge, via the Post Results section of Edexcel Online as in previous exam series.

Deadlines
29 September 2022 Access to Scripts Original (ATSO)
29 September 2022 Access to Scripts Post Review of Marking (ATSPE)

Examiners' reports are the only communication channel between the Principal Examiners and classroom teachers.  These reports include examples of good practice, common mistakes and tips to help teachers prepare future cohorts of candidates.

30 August 2022:  GCSE examiners' reports released

Requesting a review of the results

If you're not happy with your students' results this summer, you should take the following steps:

  • analyse the results using the grade boundaries, question papers, mark schemes and examiners’ reports of the paper/qualification concerned
  • read and review your students’ scripts using the free access to scripts service
  • use ResultsPlus to see how your students have performed on every question and compare their performance to the national average.

If you are still unhappy with your students' results, you may apply for a review of marking via our post-results services.

Candidate consent

Before you apply for any review of marking, you must obtain the consent of any candidate for whom you intend to apply for a review.  The  candidate must understand that as a result of a review the mark awarded may be lower than, higher than, or the same as the result which was originally awarded for this subject.
