September 2021 Design and Technology update
Welcome to the 2021-2022 academic year. Here is your September 2021 update, including the most up-to-date information GCSE and A level Design and Technology. In this, you will find information on NEA adaptations for summer 2022, information on Ofqual`s consultation and on-demand training available.
Autumn 2021 exam series
Entry for the autumn 2021 exam series for GCSE, AS and A level examinations is restricted to students who have received a teacher-assessed grade in summer 2021 and to students who are able to demonstrate that they would have entered summer 2021 exams had they not been cancelled.
NEA adaptations in 2021-2022
As previously confirmed, the NEA adaptations from 2020-2021 has been brought forward to this academic year (2021-2022), which means that:
- mockups and/or clear/detailed intentions of prototypes will be accepted in place of final prototypes, through the making of proof-of-concept models*.
- grid 3.2 in the Component 2 CAB will not be assessed for 2022, to reflect this change.
- the demonstration of using machinery/tools/processes will be accepted through written, photographic and/or video evidence.
*Please note that centres are permitted to continue to manufacture high quality outcomes where it is safe to do so, and in line with regional and national safety guidance, but for equality for all students, marks awarded for Quality and Accuracy will not be included in assessment of the component.
Learner work will be submitted for external moderation in the usual way.

Ofqual - DfE consultation on the proposed changes to the assessment of GCSEs, AS and A levels in 2022
We are waiting for the consultation outcome to determine the changes to exams in 2022. The change that the consultation highlights is the provision of advance information on the focus of the content of exams, in the majority of subjects at GCSE, AS and A level. D&T is included in these subject.

- A level D&T NEA marking training modules.
These on-demand training has been developed to support you in the delivery, assessment and post-examination feedback. They can be watched at a time that suits you, shared with colleagues and revisited when needed.
