This update outlines the key things you need for

• A level (GCE and IAL) results day on 15 August 2019, and 
  
• GCSE and International GCSE results day on 22 August 2019.

The results

Please note that we cannot issue results over the phone. You should obtain results from your exams officer.

Grade boundaries

We provide information about grade boundaries and uniform mark scale (UMS).

For GCE Business you will see a maximum mark of 335 as this reflects the different weightings of the three A level papers. All three papers are marked out of 100 but Papers 1 and 2 have a 35% weighting whereas Paper 3 has a 30% weighting. This means that the marks you see are adjusted marks and not raw marks. The conversion works by multiplying Paper 1 and 2 marks by 1.1725 and the Paper 3 mark by 1.005.

You will also see notional grade boundaries. They are 'notional' because grade boundaries are no longer set for each paper, rather, they are set for the qualification as a whole. These 'notional' grade boundaries are to help you with mocks.

IAL Business is a unitised qualification and uses a uniform mark scale (UMS). The raw mark is the number of marks a learner achieved on an exam or assessment. The UMS mark (Uniform Mark Scale mark) or points score is a conversion of the raw mark. The raw mark is never shown on the results slip, so students will either see a UMS mark, a points score or no numerical mark at all. Exams Officers can find the raw mark on the 'Component Mark List' report from Edexcel Online.

Both GCSE Business and International GCSE Business will be using grades 9-1 for the first time this summer.

Analysing the results

ResultsPlus is a free online results analysis tool for teachers that gives you a detailed analysis of your students' exam performance. You can also see how they have performed on every question and compare their performance to the national average. 

Examiners' Reports

Examiners' reports are a useful way of understanding the standard that has been applied. You can see exemplar student answers to each question with examiner comments and tips.

Examiners' reports will be available on ResultsPlus on results days and uploaded to the qualifications pages the following week.

Access to Scripts

Once May/June 2019 results are published in August, you will be able to view and download scripts which have been marked online free of charge from our self-service portal.

Availability

The self service portal will be available until the final Access to Script deadline - 13 December 2019.  You should save and/or print any scripts you need before this date.

You can access free Access to Scripts for the May/June 2019 exam series from:
• 15 August for A level and International A Level
• 22 August for GCSE and International GCSE

The Portal can only be accessed by Edexcel Online users who have the Exam Viewer profile ticked on Edexcel Online. Your exams officer gives teachers access to Exam Viewer. Please note that these scripts do not contain examiners' annotations.

If scripts have been marked "traditionally" (ie not online), your exams officer will have to request them via the Post Results section of Edexcel Online as in previous exam series.  These scripts will also be free of charge. The 13 December deadline also applies to scripts which have been traditionally marked.  Some scripts that have been modified, used extra paper or certain inks may have been traditionally marked even when that unit is available on the script portal.

Candidate consent

Candidate consent is required before requesting script copies, as per section 6.2.1 of the JCQ's Post-results services guide "Prior written permission must be obtained from any candidate where the centre intends to request his/her script(s)".

Reviews of Marking and Moderation (formerly Enquiries About Results)

This is a formal procedure which cannot be done over the phone. Please speak to your exams officer if you wish to proceed with a Review of Marking and Moderation (RoMM).  RoMM services include:

• Service 1 - a clerical check.
• Service 2 - a review of marking.
• Service 2P - a priority review of marking available if a GCE A-level candidate’s place in higher education is dependent on the outcome.

Candidate permission

If you would like to apply for a review of marking you will need the permission of the candidate who must be made aware that marks can be reduced as well as raised.

Please remember that the last date for us to receive applications for reviews of marking services is 19 September 2019. The deadline for requesting a priority service 2 review of GCE/IAL marking is 22 August 2019.
