Following Ofqual's decision to introduce changes to selected GCSE qualifications for the 2021 examination series due to the impact coronavirus has had on students’ education in the UK, we are making similar adjustments to certain International GCSE qualifications to ensure continuing parity. Please note that the changes outlined are correct at time of publication and apply to the 2021 exam series only. For students due to be examined in 2022, these changes do not apply. Changes to Pearson Edexcel Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in History examinations for 2021

The changes for the 2021 series will be:

Students will study and be assessed on 3 topics instead of 4 as follows:

Option A – Choose two topics in Paper 1 as usual and in Paper 2 choose one topic in Section A.

Option B – Choose one topic in Paper 1 and in Paper 2 choose two topics (one from Section A and one from Section B) as usual.

Section A: Historical Investigation, in Paper 2, is compulsory in both options.

Teachers can therefore choose to drop either one Paper 1 depth study or the Paper 2 study in breadth.
