In school, wanting to be a poet

Back in 2020, we asked students in year 9, 10 and 11 to celebrate our latest collection of poems, 'Belonging', by taking inspiration from one of our poems 'In Wales, wanting to be Italian', and writing their own.

A huge thanks to all those who entered, we are thrilled to announce our winners!

  • 1st place: Bismark Adomako Fosu, from Greig City Academy, with 'Nowhere'
  • 2nd place: Andrew Kriek, from Sutton Grammar School, with 'Belonging'
  • 3rd place: Eden-Miah Ross, also from Greig City Academy, with 'Among the Rose Ones'

Our first place winner, Bismark, said:

'I entered this poem competition not only because it was suggested to me by my teacher but mainly because of the theme, ‘belonging’ as I felt like I related to this topic, as sometimes I find it hard to understand who I am as a person and what I want to be represented as.'

Read the poem that inspired our winners and explore the Belonging collection.
