As I'm sure everyone is aware, the GCSE and A level PE qualifications are being redeveloped for first teaching in September 2016 and first assessment in summer 2018 (summer 2017 for AS). To keep everyone informed, I'm initially setting up 3 briefings for GCSE PE.

'Changes to the GCSE PE qualification' briefings

These 'Changes to the GCSE PE qualification' sessions are for teachers who would like further information on the new GCSE PE qualification (September 2016). I'll give an overview of the timelines, weightings and changes to the subject content, followed by a question and answer session on the new qualification. Each session will last around 45 minutes.

Not sure how an online session works?

You need a computer and headphones or speakers. After booking onto an online session, you'll be sent an invitation with login details. Shortly before the training session begins, you log in. A screen will open and your name will appear on the screen along with those of other participants. I will speak live via a webcam (with you listening on your headphones or speakers), explaining the slides or webpages that appear on the screen. You have the opportunity to ask questions (by typing into a dialogue box) at various stages of the session. I read your questions and give an oral response.

Want to know if your whole department can participate?

If there are several people in your school who would like to participate in the briefing, you could do so by using an interactive whiteboard (IWB) and speakers. You could then discuss the presentation and ask questions as a group.

Would you like to win a trip to the National Tennis centre and a £100 tennis equipment voucher?

British tennis has launched an exciting digital competition, aimed at young people in further education colleges, that gives them an opportunity to talk about, and celebrate, how tennis leadership and volunteering can provide opportunities for them to develop a variety of transferable skills and build confidence through real-life vocational experiences.

If you're planning on delivering the LTA Tennis Leaders course this year, here’s a great way to introduce your learners to the course and get them thinking about the wider benefits of tennis leadership and volunteering.

For more information and and how to enter, visit the LTA website.

Best regards
