With the new school term well under way, I’d like to let you know of some developments with our BTEC Nationals in CPLD suite of qualifications, as well as give you all the information you need to make sure you register your learners on the right qualification for them.
The table below shows which qualification(s) you should be registering on, according to your centre needs.
||Suggested Qualification from September 2013|
||Continue teaching Level 3 BTEC National Children’s Care, Learning and Development.|
||BTEC Level 3 National in Health and Social Care (Certificate, Subsidiary Diploma, 90-credit Diploma).|
||Offer the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (CYPW).|
||Continue combined assessment of CYPW and CPLD.|
The BTEC National in Children’s Care Learning and Development has been extended to August 2014 so you can still register learners this year if that’s the most appropriate qualification for your learners.
Looking forward to September 2014
The result of the recent Government consultation into Early Years Education means that the criteria for childcare qualifications will change from September 2014. To meet the recommendations from the consultation, all awarding organisations, including Pearson, will be redeveloping their Level 3 childcare qualifications. This means that all centres will need to start offering a new qualification from September 2014. We’re currently developing the new EYE qualification and will be in touch again as soon as the draft specification is available, which we anticipate will be early in the new year. We are confident that this new qualification will carry a licence to practice, so if this is an important consideration in your centre, you won’t need to also deliver CYPW (which is currently the case).
As ever, if you need any further information, or would like to discuss your curriculum options, then please feel free to contact me by email at TeachingChildCare@pearson.com or by phone on 0844 463 2815. Throughout the autumn term, I will be running breakfast briefings to keep you up to date with the latest information and developments to our CPLD qualifications - more details will follow soon via my email updates. To sign up to my email updates, please email TeachingChildcare@Pearson.com and include 'Please add me to your mailing list' in the subject line.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your learners a successful academic year.
