Higher Nationals Newsletter November 2021
News and updates about BTEC Higher Nationals for November 2021.
APMR launched on 28 October
The process for submitting the APMR changes this year, with all centres receiving a unique link to complete it. We emailed the links to key contacts listed in Edexcel Online on 28 October. If you have not received yours, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Centres have until 28 January 2022 to complete the review and all successful submissions will receive an individualised report, benchmarked against the overall findings.
Please note that completion of the APMR is mandatory for all centres delivering BTEC Higher Nationals, and part of our enhanced quality assurance cycle.
Join our online network events
We're running a number of Online Network Sessions in December, where our subject leads will talk to special guests about industry engagement.
Delegates will hear about best practice and previous experiences from other centres, and have an opportunity to share their own views and ask questions.
Updated specification for HNs in Computing
We recently reviewed and updated this qualification, and a new specification is now available on our website. The new specification is available for first teach from September 2022.
If you intend to continue delivering HNs in Computing, you will need to apply for re-approval. We will contact centres with details of the process in due course.
For centres in England, the new Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification has been awarded the Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) quality mark by IfATE, and is aligned to recognised occupational standards.
New specification release for HNs in Art and Design
A new optional unit has been added to the Level 4 (HNC). Unit 70: Footwear Manufacture & Making provides an introduction to the processes, techniques and equipment required for footwear construction. The unit is designed to add further specificity to the Level 4 Fashion & Textiles pathway, so that students may develop further specialisation.
New pathway for HNs in Creative Media Production
The Media Photography pathway provides a route for students within Creative Media Production to specialise in areas of photography specifically related to media. The pathway includes new units as well as photography units from HN Art & Design (Photography).
Extended approval for HNs in Engineering
Ofqual recently granted our request to extend approval of the current suite of HN Engineering (with all its pathways) and HN Aeronautical Engineering (no pathways) qualifications to August 2024. We have not made any changes to the specifications.
Opportunities for students in Health and Social Care
The Prince’s Trust are offering Health and Social Care programmes funded by the Department for Health and Social Care, which will support 10,000 young people to start their new careers in the sector over the next three years in England.
Three programmes are available, giving Higher National students more opportunities to upskill and find out more about working in the sector directly from employers (eligibility criteria applies).
Free virtual CPD event with WorldSkills
This CPD Event, in partnership with the Education & Training Foundation, will see TVET educators from across the country come together to advance their teaching skills and introduce innovative ways to develop excellence in their students and apprentices.
Through practical workshops and discussions, we’ll bring expertise from our global network of experts back to the UK, while showcasing the very best in each industry.
