Examiner

An Examiner marks candidates’ responses in accordance with the pre-defined mark scheme, whilst adhering to Code of Practice and examination procedures.

Visiting Examiner

A Visiting Examiner is responsible for marking candidates’ performance by visiting centres (schools), ensuring the overall standards are maintained.

Moderator

Moderates centres’ assessment of candidates’ work in accordance with the agreed criteria and procedures.

Visiting Moderator

A Visiting Moderator visits centres to carry out the moderation of certain forms of work which is marked initially by teacher examiners/assessors in the centres.

Principal Examiner

A Principal Examiner sets the question paper and ensures the standardising of its marking.

Principal Moderator

A Principal Moderator ensures that internally assessed units meet the required standard and are consistent with the unit specification and assessment criteria.

Principal Standards Verifier

Responsible for driving standards through, ensuring the consistent application of unit requirements across all programmes and levels within the Principal Subject Area (PSA) and for consistent exemplification and interpretation of standards to ensure effective assessment.

Chief Examiner

A Chief Examiner ensures that the examination as a whole meets the requirements of the specification and maintains standards year on year. Chief Examiners also undertake the role of Principal Examiner or Principal Moderator for at least one component of the examination.

A Chair of Examiners maintains standards within a subject across different specifications from year to year.

Diploma Senior Assessment Associate

A Diploma Senior Assessment Associate is responsible for the assessment of the qualification and provides training/support for the qualification examining team and for centres.

Standards Verifier (QCF)

Verifies centre assessment decisions through scrutiny of assignments and samples of learner work.

Responsible for interpretation of the specifications and for verifier standardisation across a range of programmes within a Principal Subject Area (PSA).

Centre Quality Reviewer

Visits centres for the purpose of Centre Quality Review and Development (CQRD), to report on effectiveness and support centres.

The formal representative of Pearson, working in partnership with centres to quality-assure Edexcel NVQ qualifications.

Senior Standards Verifier (NVQ)

Responsible for the interpretation of the QCF competence-based qualifications and the standards verifier NVQ standardisation over a range of QCF competence-based qualifications within a Principal Subject Area (PSA).
