New apprenticeships Commis Chef

A commis chef is the most common starting position in many kitchens and in principle the most junior culinary role. A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef.

The primary objective of the commis chef is to learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions in every section of the kitchen. Therefore having the opportunity to experience, consider and value each section with a view to choosing an area where they feel most inspired.

Standard

Mandatory requirements

In order to meet the apprenticeship standard apprentices will be required to achieve a:

  • Minimum Level 1 English and attempt Level 2 English
  • Minimum Level 1 Maths and attempt Level 2 Maths

Pearson BTEC Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Food Production and Cooking

Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Professional Cookery)

Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principle (Food Production and Cooking)

Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Extended Diploma in Professional Cookery
