Important information if you intend to run Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills qualifications

You will be aware that Pearson runs a test inspections programme for centres running our Functional Skills qualifications. This was an additional quality assurance measure introduced to further improve the quality and integrity of testing, and to give you and your learners added confidence in the way these tests are conducted.

We have evaluated the outcomes of the test inspections programme over the last few years and based on our findings we have found a general trend of improvements in the way you are running our functional skills tests.

With this positive outcome we have changed our approach in conducting test inspections and no longer require you to notify us in advance of test dates. Instead we will contact you on an individual basis for test information should we plan to visit your centre to conduct an inspection.

We still expect you to run Functional Skills tests in line with our requirements listed in the Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Instructions for the Conduct of Examinations document and be compliant with JCQ Instructions for Conducting Examinations.

You are no longer required to notify us of your paper based tests from Monday 10 July 2017.

Further support and guidance

If you are running a test at an external test venue (e.g. employer's office) then please inform the employer that a test inspector might visit their premises and will require access to their premises to check that the tests are running according to Pearson and JCQ requirements. Where possible, the test inspector will liaise with the test manager, as confirmed by you, on the day of the test.

If you have any queries regarding these processes, please email vqtestinspections@pearson.com
