BTEC Nationals 2016 to 2019

BTEC Nationals from 2016 onwards now have external assessments - a requirement on Pearson to formally mark and grade external units.

Resit opportunities for learners studying BTEC Level 3 qualifications on Applied General and Tech Level performance tables in England

The latest update from the Department for Education (DfE), which was given in July 2018, is that:

"Ahead of courses commencing in September, Ministers have decided that whilst pre-existing qualifications are being offered alongside the new…qualifications the additional retake opportunity should continue."

What this means for you: two resit opportunities

All learners

  • currently studying any BTEC Level 3 National (RQF) or one of the four BTEC Level 3 Specialist Hospitality titles (Food and Beverage Supervision, Chef de Partie, Kitchen and Larder, Patisserie and Confectionery), or

  • registering from September 2018

will have a maximum of two opportunities to resit external assessments (three attempts in total).
